Meet our LUMA

Kinnevik has a long history of taking in trainees, LUMAs, who work closely with the management team. Read more about Axel Eklund-Bona, our LUMA #40

What made you apply for the LUMA role?

I was drawn to several things about the role. Firstly, Kinnevik’s legacy and strong brand, built over many decades, intrigued me right from the start. There’s something special about joining a place with such an impactful history and that has continually reinvented itself over the years. The Luma role itself stood out too, particularly the level of responsibility, varied tasks, and direct exposure to senior leadership, which I believe to be hard to find in other graduate positions.

Finally, meeting so many friendly, funny and genuinely inspiring people during the recruitment process confirmed to me that Kinnevik is the right place to grow both professionally and personally.

What are you most looking forward to in the year ahead?

I’m most excited about shadowing Georgi and the rest of the management team, seeing firsthand how decisions are made and understanding the thinking behind them. I'm also really looking forward to the direct mentorship and feedback from experienced leaders across the company; it’s a rare opportunity to learn from such seasoned executives. From earlier experiences during my studies, I’ve discovered that I enjoy working in fast-paced environments where I get to tackle a variety of challenging tasks, which is exactly what the Luma role offers.

Can you share a bit about your background and previous experiences that led you here?

I'm originally from Linköping, where I grew up with my parents and two younger brothers. In 2019, I moved to Stockholm to study at the Stockholm School of Economics, where I recently graduated with an MSc in Accounting, Valuation, and Financial Management. During my time at SSE, I became very involved in student life, dedicating a full-time year serving as VP of the Student Association. Professionally, I gained experience through internships in investment banking, management consulting, and private equity. These experiences collectively sparked my passion for investing and strategic problem-solving, giving me exposure to both analytical skills and a deep interest in the technology sector - naturally guiding me toward Kinnevik, where all these interests intersect perfectly.

What has been the biggest surprise so far with Kinnevik or the Luma role?

I knew coming in that the LUMA role would give immediate and significant exposure to what is going on at the firm, but I was struck by how quickly and directly you’re brought into high-level discussions. It's exciting, inspiring and slightly surreal, to find myself in the room where important conversations are taking place right from day one.

Which one of Kinnevik’s portfolio companies excites you the most and why?

I am very interested in companies developing solutions that truly transform how we do things. In Kinnevik’s portfolio, and legacy, this has been and still is a central part. I'm particularly drawn to those that deliver truly transformative solutions, ones that not only have solid commercial potential but also have a meaningful impact on people’s lives. As such, I'm especially excited about our investments in health technology, such as Enveda, due to their innovative approach to drug discovery.

On a similar note, our recent investment in Tandem Health is also going to be really interesting to follow as they are on a mission to truly reshape healthcare delivery, creating a scalable business while directly improving people's health.

One final question: what do you hope to learn about yourself during your time at Kinnevik?

I hope to grow and develop across multiple dimensions, gaining both technical expertise and strong time-management skills given the central and time sensitive role the LUMA has in various projects and workstreams. But more importantly, I'm eager to enhance my abilities and gain insights into various aspects of leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making, ultimately becoming more confident in my own judgment and skills as a professional.
