VillageMD partners with Walgreens to open primary care clinics

VillageMD expands its footprint

Our portfolio company, VillageMD has announced a partnership with Walgreens to launch integrated primary care clinics and recently opened the first of five sites in the Houston market under the “Village Medical at Walgreens” brand. These state-of-the-art primary care clinics are situated next to Walgreens stores creating a seamless patient experience across primary care and pharmacy.

Tim Barry, CEO & co-founder of VillageMD, said:

In America today, our healthcare system is failing. With Village Medical at Walgreens, our goal is to provide high-quality primary care that improves patients' health in a convenient, accessible, and coordinated way. Our focus on quality outcomes and efficient care delivery within a value-based model will help pave the way to a more efficient healthcare system. The integration of primary care and pharmacy is yet another example of the commitment to innovation that Walgreens and VillageMD demonstrates to its customers, patients and the broader healthcare community.

Convenient and comprehensive primary care

The clinics are staffed by primary care physicians, nurses, pharmacists and social workers who offer same-day, walk-in appointments, as well as house calls and virtual visits, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They offer services such as annual preventative care, vaccinations, smoking cessation, diagnostic testing, women’s health services as well as some specialty care and more.

Significant room for growth

Currently, Walgreens operates more than 9,000 drugstores across the US which creates a large growth opportunity for the Village Medical brand to expand. Further openings would help accelerate its primary care-led clinical model that aligns interests, drives physician satisfaction and delivers healthier patients at a lower cost.

Kinnevik led the Series B round in VillageMD in August, and we are pleased to see the company expand its footprint and finding new ways to distribute its superior care model and align interests in the healthcare marketplace for the benefit of consumers.
